Petersburg Home for Ladies since 1925

Our Caregiving Team

With the lowest ratio of residents to staff in central Virginia, we offer elegant living with exceptional care that is unparalleled in our region. A licensed nurse is available 24 hours a day to serve residents who may need assistance or who experience an emergency and our certified nursing aides are eager to provide an extra measure of pampering that each of our ladies deserve! In Magnolia Hall, our specialized memory care unit, our caregiving measures are further enhanced by a ratio of no less than one licensed caregiving staff to four ladies.

Our caregiving team works in partnership with a facility physician, Adult-Geriatric and Psych-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, visiting podiatrist, multiple therapy companies and innumerable equipment and supply vendors who will also visit to perform routine maintenance or make repairs on their equipment. Local pharmacies are available to deliver medications and supplies to our residents.

If a resident becomes ill, the on-duty nurse will perform an assessment and, when necessary, gets in touch with her personal physician or a family member. In an emergency, the Rescue Squad will be called. We have a special arrangement whereby the local rescue squad will transport our residents to Southside Regional Medical Center, or John Randolph Medical Center, Emergency Rooms without an emergency transport fee.

Petersburg Home for Ladies is governed by an all-female, volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meets monthly on the premises and places significant emphasis on catering to our ladies routines.

The Home’s Administrator and Assistant Administrator oversee daily operations. Our Director of Nursing supervises the nursing department. Licensed practical nurses assess resident medical needs and administer medication to ladies unable to medicate themselves.

Our Healthcare Coordinator works in partnership with our reception team to schedule medical appointments and works directly with physicians to make medication adjustments.

Our residents enjoy the ability to maintain their total independence throughout their stay with us, as well as the comfort that increased levels of care are available as needed.

The ladies in our home love to be active and we have lots for them to do. Residents gather daily for late morning chats, relaxation and refreshments, in our bright Garden Room, overlooking the patio and meandering pathways of our Memorial Garden. Every month residents receive a calendar of events describing the full schedule of activities and entertainment our ladies can participate in during the upcoming weeks such as religious services, visiting performers, exercise programs and local outings. As part of our total commitment to elegant living with exceptional care we strive to meet the social, physical, cultural, spiritual and intellectual needs of all our residents.

Our outdoor living spaces are equipped with seasonal shade coverings, tranquil water features and interactive furnishings such as raised flower and herb gardens. Our ladies are encouraged to pursue scientific discovery and embrace true serenity by engaging with our native plant filled pollinator garden, supporting our monarch butterfly tagging efforts through project monarch watch, or by simply sitting near our koi pond while meditating beneath the canopy of oaks and holly.
